I Put together a boom bap beat on the MPC One. I sampled a song called I Forgot to be Your Lover by William Bell from 1968. I ran the song through Izotope's Music Rebalance thing and pulled the vocals and strings/guitar onto their own isolated tracks and then chopped them up. I went way further into the MPC than I ever have on this one and learned a lot about sample layers, random playback, and all kinds of crazy powerful stuff under the hood of this thing. The drums are one shots from Splice (the snare is 3 layered and offset from each other). I used the LFO tool in the program edit to slightly alter the pitch, amplification, and filter envelopes to give the hits a bit more variation and then I humanized even further with the track pencil thing.  The bass and synth lead are the Hype synth and other than EQing them, and some reverb/distortion FX, they're basically just presets.Because I had several layers of the same song playing over each other, I found it helpful to have certain tracks panned to the left and right so the whole mix didn't feel like it was bashing you over the head from the center channel only - This is something I'm just now incorporating into my flow after years of making beats. I *finally* have my entire studio wired up and talking to each other including audio output for the iPhone. So I’m gonna start posting more raw clips like this because I honestly hate taking so much time editing things. But I’ll at least try and get the framing better next time haha@arturia_official keystep is sequencing @moogsynthesizers model d iOS app for the chords. Logic Pro is triggering @modalelectronics Skulpt for the bass tones. @teenageengineering op1 is playing random notes giving the entire thing movement. @roland_us Ju-06a is making the arp. All of that is mixed into some reverb and delay from my @zoomsoundlab g1x four. And Logic Pro is also providing the drums, sidechaining and Chroma reverb feeding into a pitch shifter and back for the shimmer.

I went in to today thinking I wasn't going to make

I went in to today thinking I wasn't going to make another jam and take a break for the weekend to get some paid word done. But then I started playing with some slightly out of tune jazz chords I sampled myself playing. I used the SP404sx to hold the chords and just loop them. They both had different sample lengths so they just played at random times. I threw the output of the SP thru Chromaverb inside of Logic Pro because I'm a bad dawless boy. Then I randomized some of the notes of the scale with the OP-1 and my favorite endless sequencer trick. And then found a beefy sawtooth synth inside of Alchemy. I never do this type of stuff and it was pretty relaxing just messing with the sounds. After yesterday's dark and moody little song, I decided to go in the complete opposite direction and make a stupid happy and bouncy op-1 jam.
